Pedro Porro’s first words as a Tottenham player after completing deadline day transfer

Pedro Porro delivered a message to Tottenham fans after completing his transfer deadline day move from Sporting CP.

The Spain international has initially joined Spurs on loan for the rest of the season but will sign a five-and-a-half-year deal this summer for a fee of £39million.

“Hi there to all fans,” Porro told the club social media in his native tongue.

“I can’t wait to begin this new challenge. I hope to see you all soon at the stadium and share many wins with you. Come on you Spurs!”

Porro, who was previously on the books at Manchester City, was Antonio Conte’s leading target but talks had stalled on Monday.

Spurs felt the Lisbon giants had reneged on their agreement as the deal snagged, although a compromise was eventually reached.

Former Spurs youngster Marcus Edwards held the key. The north London side agreed to waive a portion of his sell-on fee owed to them should Sporting sell the winger in order to force through the Porro deal.

Former Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin will replace Porro in the Portuguese capital, while Spurs made space in their squad by loaning Djed Spence to Rennes.

The 23-year-old is now in line to make his debut against former club City on Saturday and will also be included in Spurs’ Champions League squad, alongside fellow January arrival Arnaut Danjuma.
