A pedestrian has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a HGV on the M66 last night (2 May).
Emergency services rushed to the scene near junction three for Bury at around 6.30pm. Both carriageways had to be shut to allow an air ambulance to land.
The pedestrian was said to have sustained "serious" injuries and was taken to hospital where they remain. No further details about their identity or condition have been released at this stage.

GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit have now launched an investigation, and are appealing to anyone who might have witnessed the collision - or have footage - to come forward.
The northbound carriageway of the motorway remained sealed off for a number of hours on Tuesday evening to allow police to carry out their investigation work.
Drivers were subject to major delays and diversions had to be put in place - as the scale of the incident meant that both sides of the motorway had to be closed for some time.
Eyewitnesses described seeing a huge emergency response, with several police cars and other emergency vehicles spotted racing to the scene.
In a statement, GMP said: "GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit appeal for information following a road traffic collision on the Northbound carriageway of the M66.
Yesterday evening (Tuesday 2 May 2023) around 6.30pm, officers were called to reports of collision involving a pedestrian and an HGV.
The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital.
GMP are now appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have any footage of the incident – including CCTV or dashcam - to please contact GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU).
