Pedestrian suffers serious injuries after Sunderland motorbike collision just days before Christmas

Officers are appealing for witnesses after a pensioner was hit by a motorbike, leaving her with potentially life-changing injuries.

A white Lexmoto motorbike was travelling north along Sunningdale Road, Sunderland, at around 4.30pm on December 22 when it collided with the 78-year-old woman, who remains in hospital.

Emergency services rushed to help the woman while the motorbike rider assisted police at the scene with their enquiries, with officers now asking any witnesses to come forward.

Sergeant Marc Lennox, of Northumbria Police’s motor patrols department, said: “This was a very serious collision which has left an elderly woman with serious, potentially life-changing injuries.

“An investigation is now well underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident. We are now urgently appealing to anyone who witnessed what happened or who may have relevant dash cam or CCTV footage to contact us immediately.

“In addition, if anyone saw a white Lexmoto motorbike in the area prior to the collision occurring, please get in touch.”

Witnesses or anyone with information that could help should contact Northumbria Police via their website or by calling the non-emergency 101 line and quoting NP-20221222-0766.
