A huge fire has engulfed a building that has been used for filming on the popular Peaky Blinders TV series. Dalton Mills, in Dalton Lane, Keighley, was reported as being on fire at around midday.
YorkshireLive reports that flames and smoke can be seen from miles around and more than 100 firefighters have been battling the inferno. Once the largest textile mill in Yorkshire, employing 2,000 workers, the site is now a well-used location for filming period dramas, with Downton Abbey also having shot there.
A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) said: "We were called at 12.03 to reports of a fire at Dalton Mills on Dalton Lane in Keighley. We currently have twenty crews there."
Dalton Lane is closed in both directions while the fire is tackled. Both the fire service and West Yorkshire Police have advised residents nearby to keep their doors and windows shut due to the smoke while the blaze is tackled.
Keighley and Ilkley MP Robbie Moore said it was an "extremely concerning" scene and praised the emergency response.
West Yorkshire Police posted on Facebook: "Emergency services are currently in attendance at a large fire on Dalton Lane, Keighley.
"Police are assisting the fire service and urge local residents to keep doors and windows shut.
"Road closures are currently in place, please avoid the area."
