PCB expected to delay Haris Rauf's NOC for Big Bash League participation

NEW DELHI: In a development that may impact Pakistani pacer Haris Rauf's participation in the Big Bash League (BBL), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is anticipated to delay the issuance of his No-Objection Certificate (NOC) until December 11, four days after the commencement of the league. The delay has raised uncertainties about Rauf's availability for the early matches of the BBL, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.

The PCB reportedly intends for the 30-year-old fast bowler to participate in the National T20 Cup in Pakistan, scheduled to conclude on December 10. The apex cricketing body is currently holding Rauf's NOC, and there is no confirmation regarding the immediate issuance of the certificate post the National T20 Cup, according to ESPNcricinfo.

This development follows recent criticism by Pakistan chief selector Wahab Riaz, who expressed disappointment over Rauf's decision to back out from the upcoming Test series in Australia. Riaz revealed that Rauf initially agreed to play Test cricket but later changed his mind, citing concerns about his body, fitness, and workload.

Wahab Riaz, while announcing Pakistan's 18-member squad for the Australia tour, highlighted the efforts made to accommodate Rauf's concerns. Despite the assurance that performance wouldn't be the sole criterion, Rauf chose not to be part of the Test series.

Haris Rauf, known for his pace, had a challenging outing in the ODI World Cup 2023, where he played nine matches, securing 16 wickets but conceding 533 runs with an economy rate of 6.74.
