GHAZIABAD: A businessman, a resident of Ghaziabad, has received an extortion letter through speed post, police said on Monday.
The letter hints at the involvement of a gang and threatens the businessman with murder if he fails to pay Rs 60 lakh to the gang.
The businessman, Gyanendra Kumar Singh, is a resident of the Bamheta village of Kavi Nagar and a local trader in Ghaziabad. According to the police FIR in the case, on May 13, Singh received a letter through speed post that asked him to reach Udaipur with Rs 60 lakh or get killed.
According to the police, the letter hints at the involvement of a gang but does not reveal any names.
According to the complaint registered, the letter said that the “bhai” of the gang remains in jail, and if the victim did not give the money, the gang member, who wrote the letter, would issue a contract to kill him. The gang member also wrote that the businessman has time till May 20 to go to Udaipur with the money.
A senior police officer said that the letter came from a person in Udaipur.
A police team is checking the residential address mentioned in the letter.
Anand Kumar Mishra, the station house officer (SHO) of the Kavi Nagar police station, said that police registered a complaint against the unknown person involved under section 386 (punishment for extortion) of IPC. “We have formed a team to investigate the case,” he said.
