PUNE: The Vishrantwadi police on Thursday booked a moneylender on the charge of threatening a man for recovery of money despite the latter having paid him Rs 11 lakh so far against a principal amount of Rs 3.9 lakh.
An officer from the Pune crime branch said that the complainant runs a restaurant. Since 2016, he had borrowed Rs3.90 lakh from the moneylender at different intervals for repairing the restaurant and purchasing a house. “Till December last year, the complainant had repaid Rs11 lakh by way of interest of Rs19,500 per month,” the officer said.
The officer added that the complainant told the police that he could not pay two instalments to the moneylender due to some financial issues. “Following the missed payments, the suspect started visiting the complainant’s home as well as the restaurant. He claimed that the complainant owed him another Rs1.5 lakh. He also threatened the complainant for the money,” the officer said.
Frustrated by the harassment, the complainant filed a complaint with the crime branch.
