Argentinian football star Paulo Dybala has put an end to weeks of speculation by confirming his decision to stay with AS Roma, rejecting a lucrative offer from Saudi Pro League club Al Qadsiah. Reports suggest that Dybala declined a substantial €75 million ($83M) deal over three years.
In an Instagram post, Dybala expressed his gratitude towards Rome, stating, 'Thank you Rome...See you on Sunday.' This announcement follows a period of uncertainty surrounding Dybala's future, during which he trained separately from the Roma first team and was notably absent from their recent Serie A match against Cagliari.
Despite entering the final year of his contract with Roma, Dybala's decision to remain with the club triggers an automatic extension clause if he participates in at least 15 official matches this season. His new contract will see him earn €7.5 million plus €2 million in add-ons and bonuses.
Since his transfer from Juventus in 2022, Dybala has become a pivotal player for Roma, contributing 34 goals and 18 assists in 78 appearances. The news of his continued commitment to the team was met with jubilation by Roma fans, who had previously protested against the potential transfer of the star.
Al Qadsiah, the Saudi club vying for Dybala's signature, boasts a star-studded lineup featuring former Real Madrid defender Nacho Fernandez and ex-Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Despite their persistent efforts to secure Dybala's services, the player's loyalty to Roma prevailed.
Teammate Leandro Paredes expressed his delight at Dybala's decision, emphasizing his importance to the team with a social media post that read, 'For those who haven't understood it, he remains with us.'
