Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas share thoughts on what makes perfect wedding song

Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas have shared their thoughts on what makes the perfect wedding song while promoting their new musical comedy Power Ballad

Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas have shared their thoughts on what makes the perfect wedding song while promoting their new musical comedy Power Ballad.

The actor, 56, and singer Nick, 33, spoke about their musical tastes during an interview with Entertainment Weekly at the premiere of their film Power Ballad at the SXSW Conference and Festivals, as their movie stars the pair as musicians whose lives intersect through the world of wedding entertainment and pop stardom.

During the conversation, both actors were asked to name what they considered to be “the ultimate wedding song”.

Paul said: “I don’t know, I kind of like to go against the wedding grain.”

But he added: “I think, like, a great wedding song would be, you know, some kind of punk song or something that is incongruous to what you would think a wedding song would be.”

Paul then recalled a wedding he once attended where a less conventional song choice stood out to him.

He said: “I went to a wedding once and I heard ‘Oh Yoko!’ by John Lennon.

“The couple’s dance, their bride and groom dance, was to ‘Oh Yoko!’ and I thought, ‘That’s great’.”

Paul married Julie Yaeger in a private ceremony in 2003.

The couple have largely kept details of their relationship out of the public spotlight, and their own wedding song has not been publicly revealed.

Nick responded by highlighting a classic love ballad that he said he often returns to.

He said: “There are so many. One that I go to all the time is probably Bryan Adams’ (Everything I Do) I Do It for You.”

Nick, who married actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas in December 2018, also reflected on the music played during his own wedding celebrations.

The couple held two ceremonies – a Western Christian wedding and a Hindu ceremony – during their wedding events. According to a guest quoted by People magazine at the time, the couple’s first dance at the Christian celebration was set to the Roberta Flack song The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.

The guest told People: “They were cheered on by all. Their love was palpable.”

According to the official synopsis for Paul and Nick’s new film, Paul plays Rick, a washed-up wedding singer, while Nick portrays Danny, a former boy band star.

The synopsis states: “Rick (Rudd), a washed-up wedding singer, and Danny (Jonas), a fading boy band star, bond over music and a late-night jam session.”

The synopsis continues: “When Danny turns Rick’s song into a hit, Rick sets out to reclaim the recognition he believes he deserves.”
