Paul Pogba to Arsenal transfer: Fans divided, shock Premier League move eyed, Gunners admission

Paul Pogba is reportedly set to leave Manchester United in the summer on a free transfer and he's understandably garnering a lot of attention from some of Europe's top clubs.

The Frenchman's talent is undeniable, but the 29-year-old's devotion and application has constantly been under critique since his then world-record return to Old Trafford in 2016. Nevertheless, on his day, he's one of the best midfielders in football, and because of that fact, he's understandably attracting interest from some of Europe's biggest clubs.

Perhaps a surprise link is United's Premier League rivals Arsenal. The Gunners need to strengthen in the central midfield area in the summer after showing a real lack of depth in the position this season. Whether Pogba's that man remains to be seen, but with the rumour-mill loading up, it's worth taking a good look at what's been said so far.

Fans divided on Pogba move

Arsenal fans are split on whether signing Pogba will be a good thing for the club. Take a look at some of what's been said on social media site Twitter below.

@1NilArsenal said: "I like Pogba, but I think he’s the wrong personality for this team. It’s tricky though, as he’d be a great fit in terms of skills."

@Elstacko5 said: "Arsenal should be all over Pogba I cannot lie."

@kieran21529888 said: "No way arsenal fans are saying they wouldn’t replace Xhaka with pogba."

Premier League clubs linked

According to Sky Sports News, Pogba is attracting plenty of interest with his contract at Manchester United winding down this summer, with two Premier League clubs among those keen on his services. Although there's been nothing official to suggest that Arsenal are one of the teams interested in signing him, the news has sparked rumours that they might just be closely monitoring his situation.

Shock move eyed

As cited by our colleagues at Birmingham Live, The Sun claim that Aston Villa and their Premier League rivals Newcastle United are keeping an eye on the 29 year-old's current predicament with his contract up at Old Trafford come the end of the season. Pogba has been linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona while his old club, Juventus, have also been credited with an interest.

Trophy aim

Pogba has admitted that wherever he is next season, his main goal is to win more trophies as he looks to add more to his collection and legacy.

"You have to be honest, the last five seasons have not satisfied me – really not at all," he told Le Figaro. "This year it is dead, we won't win anything. Whether it is with Manchester United or at another club, I want to win trophies."

Pogba's Arsenal admission

The midfielder has previously admitted that he was actually a boyhood Arsenal fan: "I will be honest. So, at the start, I was an Arsenal fan - obviously because of all the French players, you know," Pogba told United's official podcast. "Me and my brother were but my other brother was a Manchester United fan.

"I couldn't say anything so I used to love Henry and, because of him, I was an Arsenal fan. Then I changed and went on to choose with my other brother. No Arsenal, I went with the other one, the United fan!"
