It was the theatre star's first sample of the Grand National and he was blown away by the glamour of the event. He said: "It is a fantastic atmosphere. I don't think I've ever seen anything like. It's more theatrical than being theatrical."
Christopher is staying in the city this evening and heaped praise on Liverpool. He said: "I love Liverpool, it's fantastic and I've been here many time. It's great Eurovision is coming here. You're going to be a riot of a city."
Christopher branded Paul's death as "the saddest thing that has happened" during an appearance on Loose Women earlier this month. He said: "I mean it is tragic.
"I remember seeing him in all the gay pubs years ago and people would say he's going to be a big star on television. 'No way', I thought, but he proved us all wrong. He was the best man ever.
"He was so funny. That wit we will never see again."
