Paul Nicholls has vowed to give Sir Alex Ferguson a winner at the Grand National this week as the Scot "loves nothing more" than having winners in Liverpool.
The Manchester United legend owns Protektorat, Clan Des Obeaux, Monmiral and Hitman, with the foursome all primed and ready for the National Hunt spectacle this week.
Speaking of the Scots chances, Nicholls said: "It’s well-known he likes beating Liverpool and having winners in Liverpool and he had a fantastic time last year when winning three races at Aintree.
"This year, he has some good horses with Monmiral, Protektorat, Clan Des Obeaux and Hitman. It looks a bit tougher this year, I’m not sure they’ll win three Grade Ones on the trot, but it’s good to give him plenty of winners and he loves that meeting."
Sir Alex landed an incredible 62/1 treble on the first day of the Aintree Grand National Festival last year with three winners in the opening three races and has four top horses running this year, three trained by Nicholls.
Ferguson won a share of £42,202.50 from both of the first two races, while the Bowl first prize was £84,195 - amounting to almost £169,000 in total.
"That’s the best day I’ve had in my time in racing, which is about 20 years or so," Ferguson said after Clan Des Obeaux had turned the Betway Bowl into a procession, with the dual Grand National winner Tiger Roll a well-beaten fourth.
"It’s different to when I was managing my football teams. I was in control of what was going to happen on the pitch, but I’m not in control of that on the track as the trainer does all of that and as an owner, you hope it goes well."
