It is not too common for Arsenal players, past or present, to compliment Spurs players. However, following his exceptional form since joining Tottenham in January, one former Gunner has done just that.
Paul Merson, like many, has been highly complimentary of young Swedish wide man Dejan Kulusevski who has seamlessly adapted to Antonio Conte’s system and to the Premier League over the last two months.
When previewing the Manchester United vs Tottenham game on Sportskeeda, Paul Merson wrote: “Dejan Kulusevski has been outstanding for Tottenham.
“Antonio Conte knew him from the Serie A, and it was a no-brainer of a signing. He’s hit the ground running in a much harder league than the Serie A.”
With five goal attempts in his opening six Premier League fixtures, Dejan Kulusevski has firmly reestablished himself as one of Europe’s highly rated young attackers.
Equally, Kulusevski ranks in the top 10 per cent of all wingers in Europe’s top five leagues for Assists, Expected Assists, and Pressures, highlighting both his ability to provide cutting edge output whilst working extremely hard. Exactly what Conte is looking for.
Combine his excellent early form with the increase in quality output from both Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, and Spurs are once again looking like a seriously dangerous side. If the Lilywhites can maintain a level of consistency, then they will be fully in contention for a Champions League position.
Spurs will be looking to usurp Manchester United as one of the two most likely teams to compete for the final Champions League position.
Winning today (Saturday) at Old Trafford would put Conte’s side one point ahead of United with a game in hand.
Both Antonio Conte and the Spurs fans will be hoping that Kulusevski will play a key role in claiming all three points against the Red Devils.
