Paul Merson has questioned whose decision it was to sign Mkhaylo Mudryk in January following his recent omission from Chelsea's starting XI.
Mudryk was one of Chelsea's most high-profile additions in January, making the switch from Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk for a fee that could reach £88 million, despite months of speculation linking him with Arsenal. After impressing on his debut from the bench against Liverpool, Mudryk was handed three consecutive starts against Fulham, West Ham United and Borussia Dortmund, but failed to make an impact.
As such, he was dropped to the bench for games against both Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur. Writing in his latest Sky Sports column, Merson claimed if Mudryk was a player requested by Potter, he would've remained in the team despite his slow start to life at the club, before joking Chelsea's lacklustre display at Spurs meant even he would not have looked out of place at the age of 54.
