Paul Merson has admitted he is "flabbergasted" that Newcastle United allowed Chris Wood to join Nottingham Forest.

The Reds signed the striker on a season-long loan this week, bolstering a strike force hampered by an injury to Taiwo Awoniyi and a possible departure of Emmanuel Dennis.

Wood made his Forest debut in the 1-1 draw against Bournemouth on Saturday, while his parent club Newcastle drew 0-0 with Crystal Palace. When the striker came up in conversation on Sky Sports, Merson revealed his thoughts on the deal and the decision Newcastle have made in letting him go.
