Paul Hartley on Celtic’s ‘electric’ midfield

Former Celtic star Paul Hartley has hailed the Hoops’ ‘electric’ midfield in what has been an exceptional start to the season for the Premiership champions.

Five wins from five, fifteen goals scored with just one conceded in the League Cup and a dominant derby win – the stats make very satisfying reading for Hoops fans.

After losing Matt O’Riley to Brighton over the summer, Reo Hatate has enjoyed a dazzling campaign so far. Brendan Rodgers has freshened up his midfield with new signings Luke McCowan and Arne Engels, with Paulo Bernardo returning on a permanent deal to provide the manager with plenty of options to work with.

Speaking to PLZ Soccer, Hartley says he believes Celtic are “blowing teams away with their intensity and their speed.” He said: “The games that I’ve saw, and I’ve saw most of the games, they’ve been electric.

“In that middle of the pitch, they’ve got so many good players to pick from. McGregor is the captain and he’s been in top form. And I think not having international games now has probably helped him in terms of his rest and recovery. And the players that they’ve brought in… they’ve got so many players to choose from, especially in that area of the pitch.

“They’ve been in top form.”
