The most shocking NFL news didn’t even come on Black Monday.
On Tuesday, the Tennessee Titans announced they had fired Mike Vrabel as head coach. That news obviously created a ton of buzz for New England Patriots fans with the possibility of Bill Belichick being the next coach to lose his job.
Belichick and owner Robert Kraft are still in discussions on how to move forward after the team finished with a 4-13 record and missed the playoffs for a second consecutive season.
Vrabel, who was inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame back in October, makes sense as a succession plan for Belichick. He has the experience and familiarity with the Patriots’ organization to fit like a glove.
However, some are skeptical of the change he could realistically implement considering he’s also a defensive-minded coach, like Belichick. Here’s what fans were saying on Twitter in response to the Vrabel firing:
Mike Vrabel, YOU are the next New England Patriots head coach. https://t.co/Ht1R4j9481

Mike Vrabel is a good coach but not what Patriots need. We need a GM & a quarterback.
— Fifth Angle (@FifthAngle1) January 9, 2024
Mike Vrabel’s philosophical view of modern football is too similar to what failed Bill Belichick in foxborough. Patriots need a complete overhaul with a focus on cutting-edge offensive innovation, something Vrabel won’t bring. Spinning your wheels by trying to keep dynasty ties.

I think it would be a huge mistake for the Patriots to hire Mike Vrabel. Belichick 2.0. Need an offensive minded HC

I wouldn’t be surprised if Mike Vrabel ends up in NE if the Patriots decide to part ways with Bill Bellichick.

Mike Vrabel was always the Patriots next head coach

Mike Vrabel coaching the Patriots is not a difficult sell for Robert Kraft…

Patriots should retain Belichick, bring in McDaniels if they opt not to keep Bill O Brien (if they do, sorry Josh you're unemployed. Can't do both), extend Mayo giving him whatever he wants & then kick the tires on Mike Vrabel. If he'll take some sort of advisor role, why not

Black Tuesday. Patriots have options. Mike Vrabel over Josh McDaniel EASY.

Didn’t see the titans firing Mike Vrabel coming. Whatever happens with bill and patriots, I could see them hiring him.

Firing Mike Vrabel is wild, it's like they want him to go back to the Patriots.

The #Patriots having their first truly bad year in decades, then parlaying that into Mike Vrabel & a franchise QB picked at No. 3 (or 1 if they trade up) is … expected. pic.twitter.com/FVao4oyy7i

Would be shocked that if BB does retire or leave New England that the #Patriots don't hire Mike Vrabel.
Makes way too much sense.

so mike vrabel just landed in the patriots lap correct?

He's a former Patriot so I am biased. But Mike Vrabel didn't deserve that
