The New England Patriots have more to worry about than their 37-26 loss in the home opener to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. Their starting quarterback, Mac Jones, went down with what looked like a serious ankle injury late in the fourth quarter.
The play came on a quarterback hit from Ravens defensive tackle Calais Campbell, who twisted Jones to the ground and fell on his leg. Immediately after the play was over, the second-year quarterback hopped off the field on one leg and was carried to the locker room, while screaming in pain.
Hopefully, the injury looks worse than it really is with some relatively good news coming from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, who provided an update on the injury.
Jones underwent x-rays after the game, and according to Rapoport, the results came back negative with no structural damage to his ankle during the hit.

However, there could still be some ligament damage. So Jones isn’t completely out of the woods just yet. It’s still a long ways to go from what happened against the Ravens and Jones suiting up for Week 4 against the Green Bay Packers.
There’s still a chance he could miss time on the field. The team will hope for the best, while also preparing for a situation where Brian Hoyer could be the starting quarterback.
