New England Patriots quarterback Jacoby Brissett was emotional before Sunday’s 16-10 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. He explained what the game meant to him with reporters following the contest.
The quarterback had an efficient day, going 15-of-24 on the afternoon and throwing for 121 yards. The victory was quite memorable for the veteran, who was originally drafted by the Patriots in 2016. He even admitted to crying three times before the game. It was a roller coaster of emotions for him both on and off the field.
“I think I cried three times before the game,” Brissett said, via Pro Football Network’s Dakota Randall. “I cried when I got to the stadium. Mayo came up to me before the game, he started laughing, he’s like, ‘Man, you’re about to win us this game. you’re about to ball out.’
“I’d never heard that from a coach. That meant a lot to me. And then I cried when we were going out on offense. My emotions were definitely high. It’s definitely a moment that I just can’t take for granted. These things don’t come by often.”
If anything, Sunday’s victory serves as a stepping stone for a Patriots team still in the process of rebuilding. Although many would like to see the Patriots have a top pick in the 2025 NFL draft, this group is not subscribing to that line of thinking.
Their win over the Bengals proves it.
