New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye revealed what he has learned through his first five starts of his rookie NFL season.
The North Carolina product has provided a spark to the Patriots’ offense since taking over as the starter. He has recorded 954 passing yards, seven touchdowns and five interceptions so far this season.
He picked up his first win as a starter in last week’s 19-3 road victory over the Chicago Bears.
The 22-year-old quarterback has been succeeding off the field as well. He has impressed the coaching staff and his teammates with his command of the offense and newfound leadership role as a whole.
When speaking with the media, Maye admitted one lesson in particular has stood out to him.
“Battling back from adversity at times in the game, at times in the season,” said Maye. “Starting the season off, you plan on wanting to be the starter and handling adversity throughout the locker room and through, just being on the football team.
“And then handling adversity when I’m actually in there playing. So just channeling difficult times and bouncing back. At this position, these guys look to me and know that I gotta keep a kind of upbeat mindset and upbeat personality. Because these guys follow me, and listen to me, and respect me.”

There are still seven games in the season left to see what Maye is all about.
