The New England Patriots announced on Tuesday that Matt Groh has been promoted to director of player personnel. He will replace Dave Ziegler, who left New England to take the general manager job with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Groh is in his 12th season with the organization. He spent last season as a college scouting director. He has been with the organization since 2011, when he first joined as a scouting assistant. He has taken on many other roles during that timeframe, including area scout and a national scout for the organization.
Groh has ties to the area, as he is a native of Hingham, Massachusetts. He has playing experience as well. Playing quarterback for Princeton University, he graduated in 2003. His father Al Groh was an assistant coach under Bill Parcells during his time in New England. Al Groh was the head coach the New York Jets following Bill Belichick’s departure for New England.
With Groh poised to take a larger role in the coming drafts, he could play a major part in shaping the future of the organization.
