The New England Patriots announced that they placed defensive lineman Christian Barmore on the reserve non-football illness list on Thursday.
Per a statement released by the team, Barmore has been experiencing recurring symptoms of his health problems.
The standout defensive tackle returned to practice in November after missing most of the season due to blood clots that were discovered over the summer. He was able to make an impact in his return to the team, recording six tackles and a sack in only four games on the field.
“We appreciate everything Christian did to return to the team this season, but our top priority is Christian’s health and wellbeing,” the statement from the Patriots read. “We know that he will continue to receive tremendous care and we want to ensure that he gets the time he needs to come back stronger than ever.”
This is an unfortunate development considering how hard Barmore worked his way back to health. Hopefully, this is just a minor setback for a player who has been important to the organization both on and off the field.
