The New England Patriots added to their defensive front on Tuesday with the announced signing of NFL veteran defensive lineman Kobe Jones.
This was a depth signing for the Patriots with outside linebackers Joshua Uche and Oshane Ximines both working their way through injuries. The team is already missing Christian Barmore at defensive tackle, and Matthew Judon was traded to the Atlanta Falcons last week.
The Patriots were running out of bodies along the defensive front.
Jones has bounced around to multiple NFL teams, including the Atlanta Falcons, Miami Dolphins, Tennessee Titans, Green Bay Packers and Carolina Panthers. He most recently signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the CFL.
Despite playing for five different NFL teams, he has only appeared in two games.
The Patriots also announced the signing of defensive end Christian McCarroll, who was a former Grand Valley State standout.
There won’t be much time for the two defensive players to make a case for a roster spot with the preseason finale set for Sunday against the Washington Commanders.
However, a strong showing could earn them a spot on the practice squad or an even bigger opportunity, if Uche or Ximines miss significant time.
