When you’ve watched the greatest quarterback of all-time play for two decades, there’s always going to be a drop-off. After all, no quarterback was going to match Tom Brady’s career in New England. But at the same time, Patriots fans expect to at least have a competent starter at quarterback in the post-Brady era.
So with that in mind, Mac Jones hasn’t been that at all for the Patriots.
One week after getting benched for fan-favorite Bailey Zappe in Monday Night Football, Jones was back as the starter against the Jets, and it was more of the same for Jones.
The former first-round pick put together an underwhelming first half where he threw a pick, missed Hunter Henry on a would-be first down and had a TERRIBLE pick-six negated by a roughing the passer penalty (that didn’t impact the pass).
Mac Jones couldn't take his eyes off Jakobi Meyers. Hunter Henry was open. https://t.co/aRzhUXvAUj

It was the kind of performance that would’ve sparked loud “Zappe” chants in New England. But on Twitter, it was awfully clear that patience has run out for Patriots fans with Jones.
This was how Twitter reacted

But hey, Jones did come back in the second half and lead the Patriots on a touchdown drive.
