Bill Belichick’s historic coaching career revolves around the mantra “Do Your Job” and the aura of being a tough-minded, no-nonsense coach.
As the New England Patriots usher in a new era next season under coach Jerod Mayo, player personnel executive Eliot Wolf didn’t shy away from the changes coming to Foxborough, which included a sideswipe at the culture Belichick built that helped the franchise win six Super Bowls.
“[It] will be less of a hard-ass vibe,” Wolf told the media at the NFL combine on Tuesday.
While it’s one thing to signal that the culture will be different, it’s another to implement in practice once the players are back in the building. That fact is something that Wolf did not shy away from.
“It’s easy to say the culture has changed, but there’s no players here right now, so we’ll see if the culture has changed,” Wolf added.
It’s certainly going to be a different feel around Foxborough next season as the Patriots welcome in a new coach for the first time in over two decades, but Wolf believes that Mayo has the leadership qualities necessary to make a great head coach.
“We have leadership with Jerod Mayo that is going to be tremendous. He is just an unbelievable leader and developer of people, and I think that as we move forward with the new offense and defense., it’s gonna be pretty special and exciting here.”
New England holds the No. 3 pick in the draft in April, a pick that will be crucial in jump starting the new era of Patriots football.
