Patriots CB Jack Jones officially placed on IR to start the season

Not only will the New England Patriots not have cornerback Jack Jones for the opener, but they will be without him for at least the first four games of the regular season.

On Saturday, the team announced they were placing the 2022 fourth-round draft pick on injured reserve. First and foremost, it’s a disappointing turn of events for Jones, who was hoping to see more reps on the field.

It’s also disappointing for a Patriots team that now has depth concerns on the backend of their defense. Their top corners are Christian Gonzalez, Jonathan Jones and Marcus Jones with Myles Bryant and Shaun Wade as the top backups.

Bryant quietly had a strong preseason, and that effort could earn him extra reps for the Patriots with Jack Jones currently on the shelf. Size on the outside is obviously the main concern with Gonzalez, Jones, Wade and rookie Ameer Speed being some of the bigger corners for the Patriots.

Options are dwindling, and with the Week 1 meeting with the Philadelphia Eagles slated for Sunday, time has run out.
