Patrick Vieira insists Wilfried Zaha is ‘happy’ at Crystal Palace as he downplays exit talks

Patrick Vieira has dismissed talk of Wilfried Zaha leaving Crystal Palace this summer.

The 29-year-old is entering the final 12 months of his contract at Selhurst Park, with no agreement yet reached over a new deal.

That has led to rumours that Zaha’s time in south London could be coming to an end, with Jose Mourinho’s Roma put forward as a potential destination. One possibility suggested is a swap deal in which forward Felix Afena-Gyan would move to Palace.

Vieira’s squad are currently on a pre-season tour in Singapore, before moving on to Australia, though Zaha is one of the big-name players who have not travelled.

However, the Palace boss has insisted that the winger is happy with the Eagles and transfer rumours surrounding his future are nothing more than speculation.

“It’s just a report I think,” Vieira said.

“We are in a period where there is a lot of speculation regarding players.

“What is really important for me and the football club is that Wilfried Zaha came back on time and he is working well to have a good season.

“What goes on in the papers, it is difficult for us to control. What I know is that he is happy in our football club and he is looking forward to the new season at our football club.”
