Patrick Vieira accuses Casemiro of lack of respect in verdict on Manchester United defeat

Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira has accused Casemiro of a lack of respect after the Manchester United midfielder was sent off on Saturday.

United picked up a valuable three points in a 2-1 win at Old Trafford thanks to goals from Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford. The latter looked to have all but ended the contest with half an hour to go, but a coming together minutes later saw Casemiro - via a VAR review - dismissed for holding Will Hughes by the throat.

Jeffrey Schlupp pulled a goal back almost instantly, forcing Erik ten Hag's side to endure a nervy 20 minutes before eventually holding firm and picking up a 13th consecutive home league victory.

RATINGS: Varane and Martinez superb in Palace win

Speaking after the result, Palace boss Vieira admitted he did not see the incident clearly at the time but said "things can happen" when you don't respect opposition players.

"I didn't see the red card, I was far from it," Vieira told reporters. "The game has to be played with respect, and sometimes when you don't respect your opponent, things can happen.

"The player from United was looking for it, and he created this situation. But it's about remaining calm, concentrate on what you want to do, and I was pleased with the character we showed today.

"It was a tough game, really tough decision from the referees. But we tried to play with a lot of discipline, we conceded the first goal and it was tough for us but we managed to stay in the game."

United manager Ten Hag lamented the officiating in his post-match media duties, pointing to the actions of Jordan Ayew - who also raised a hand that hit Fred's face - which went unpunished. The Dutchman also blamed Schlupp for starting the fracas by shoving Antony into a pitch-side ditch.

Casemiro will miss the next three league games as a result of his suspension, meaning the 30-year-old will be unavailable for next week's double-header against Leeds United before a meeting with Leicester City. He will be back for the Carabao Cup final.
