Sir Patrick Stewart is returning to his iconic Star Trek character Jean-Luc Picard for one final time as he stars in series three of the spin-off show Picard.
The award-winning actor found fame as the captain of the USS Enterprise, a role he has played since 1987, and has been a firm fan favourite ever since.
While his character navigates his way through space, defeating his enemies and protecting his crew, Patrick has had an equally colourful life off screen.
The 82-year-old was involved in a mortifying awards row with James Corden, has admitted to using cannabis to combat ageing and underwent major surgery after being diagnosed with heart disease.
Here, we take a look at the real life of the Hollywood star.
Age gap romance
At 82 years old, Patrick is almost twice as old as his 44-year-old wife Sunny Ozell. In fact, he's even five years older than his father-in-law.
The couple met through a mutual friend back in 2008, when singer-songwriter Sunny was working as a waitress in New York.
Patrick said he was instantly attracted to Sunny.
"It was an immediate attraction. When she came over to offer us dessert on the house – because her manager had insisted – we got talking.
"She very kindly said she wanted to see Macbeth and then I gave her my mobile phone number," he told the Daily Mail.
Sunny's dad was initially wary of his daughter's new beau, but the two men have become good friends over the years.
"He rings me up and says, 'Hey son, it’s your father here'," he added.
Sunny and Patrick tied the knot in September 2013 in a ceremony officiated by Patrick's best friend and fellow actor Sir Ian McKellen.
Turning to cannabis
Patrick turned to cannabis-based sprays, pills and ointments in his early 70s to help him battle a medical condition which he inherited from his mother.
The veteran actor uses the drug, which he buys legally in the US, to treat arthritis and he said the medicine soothes his painful hands.
Speaking to The Mirror back in 2017, he revealed: "Two years ago in Los Angeles, I was examined by a doctor and given a note which gave me legal permission to purchase, from a registered outlet, cannabis-based products.
"The ointment helps with sleep as the pain was reduced. The spray is much more usable and I spray my fingers several times a day."
He added: "They have significantly reduced the stiffness and pain. I can make fists, which was not the case before I began this treatment."
James Corden spat
The X-Men star became embroiled in a toe-curling clash with James Corden at the Glamour Awards after he made jokes about the comedian's 'belly'.
The pair shocked onlookers at the Glamour Women of the Year event back in 2010 by getting involved in a verbal tussle.
The drama unfolded when Patrick got up on stage to present a gong for Film Actress of the Year and criticised Corden's hosting techniques.
"I want to speak to James here, it is James isn't it?" he began, eliciting a laugh from the audience.
He accused James of standing at the back of the stage with his hands in his pocket looking like 'he wished he could be anywhere but here' when winners came up to collect their gongs.
"Oh you couldn't be more wrong sir, you couldn't be more wrong."
Things took a turn for the worse when Patrick proceeded to body-shame James, telling the comic: "From where I was sitting, I could see your belly.
"And that was from over there, at the back of the room."
With his arms folded, James countered: "Sorry, I'm waiting for the punchline. Go on... You could see my belly... and we can all see you dying [on stage] right now. Let's go for it."
James then presented the gong to Avatar star Zoe Saldana, who said: "I like your belly."
Spurred on, James said, "I feel bad for people who haven't seen my belly," and lifted his T-shirt and showed off his tummy to huge applause before throwing one more dig.
"OK can we get a taxi ready please. The old man's going home," James sniped.
Circumcision mistake
For years, Sir Patrick wrongly believed he was circumcised.
The star had always thought he'd had the procedure as a newborn baby and was shocked when his doctor confirmed his manhood is fully intact.
Speaking on the Graham Norton Show, he said: "One night with my wife, as you do, we were talking about stuff and I mentioned my circumcision and she said, 'You're not circumcised'.
"I said, 'What do you mean? That's ridiculous, I should know. All my life my mother has told me it was fashionable at the time'.
"I happened to be seeing my doctor the next day for a check-up so while he was down there I said, 'By the way, my wife and I have had a little disagreement, I am circumcised, aren't I?'
"He took a closer look and said, 'Not! I am Jewish, and definitely know the difference!'"
Life-saving surgery
Patrick received an unexpected diagnosis of heart disease, before being rushed to hospital for major surgery to save his life.
Appearing on an episode of This Morning a few years ago, he said: "I was diagnosed very unexpectedly during my annual physical by my cardiologist who said, 'What are you doing this afternoon?'
"To which I said, 'Well actually, I’m going for lunch.' And he said, 'I'd rather you didn't.'
"And in five minutes I was on a gurney giving details of my next of kin and so it was rather dramatic."
He added: "It was a wake up call - Patrick, you are not immune."
The emergency surgery removed an 85 percent blockage in Patrick's heart and inserted a stent tube to keep the area clear and minimise clogging.
Following the procedure, he had to see a doctor twice a year for multiple tests including an angiogram, which allows doctors to see your heart's blood vessels.
