Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford says the Whites need to develop a 'winning mentality' during pre-season. Jesse Marsch's side kicked off their pre-season tour of Australia with a 2-1 over Brisbane Roar, with two quickfire goals from Dan James and Joe Gelhardt securing the victory, despite Joe Knowles pulling a goal back just before half-time.
Bamford played 30 minutes in Queensland after spending much of last season out injured. The striker glanced a Sam Greenwood cross narrowly wide of the post.
"I was bit tired!", Bamford told LUTV post-match. "That's my first game in God knows how long. It was nice to be back out there, (we were) a bit rusty, but we'll get better with each game.
"I'm just trying to get my fitness up. Obviously I'm chasing a little bit because I had a little bit longer off. You have to get your fitness up, and then as a team, you have to get that winning mentality.
"Obviously for me I try and score goals, but it's about getting that winning mentality and confidence early on.
"It's always tough being out injured and watching on, and once I got injured against Wolves I gave myself a goal to aim towards; trying my best to put myself in contention for the World Cup. That was my focus and I was working hard every day to get back on the pitch."
