PATNA/BIHARSHARIF: Two persons were feared drowned after their SUV, they were sitting in, fell into the swollen Ganga at Jethuli ghat under Fatuha police station. The four-wheeler was being ferried on a boat to the other side of the river. The missing persons have been identified as Gautam (30) and Anil (50).
The incident took place around 9.30pm on Sunday when the marriage procession of Shambhu Rai, son of Upendra Rai, from Indira Nagar of Patna left for Raghopur village in Vaishali in an SUV. “The vehicle, carrying eight persons, reached the ghat to cross the river on a boat. The SUV was also loaded on the boat along with two other four-wheelers. When the boat covered around 15-feet from Jethuli ghat towards Vaishali, the vehicle fell into the river. Two people drowned while six others managed to swim to the ghat,” said DSP Rajesh Kumar Manjhi.
He said the vehicle was fished out from the river but there was no trace of the missing persons. “A search operation was started in the Ganga with the help of a NDRF team that arrived in the night, but they could not be traced,” he added.
Ex-mukhiya’s husband shot at in Nalanda: miscreants shot at and critically injured Ajit Kumar Singh, husband of former mukhiya of Arpa panchayat under Hilsa block in Nalanda district on Monday. The victim was referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) by doctors at Hilsa referral hospital.
According to police, land dispute is said to be the reason behind the attack. The victim was on way to his farm on Monday morning when four miscreants on two motorbikes stopped him near the village pond and they pumped three bullets in his body. They fled from the spot after firing several rounds in the air. “An investigation into the incident is going on,” said Ghulam Sarwar SHO of Hilsa police station.
