PATNA: A large number of members of LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer) community organized a ‘Pride Parade’ and Bihar Transgender Festival here on Thursday.
They said the parade was organized with the motive to sensitize people about the rights and dignity of LGBTQ community. The parade, organized by Dostana Safar, buzzed the roads in Kadamkuan area with rainbow flags, banners and trumpets to symbolize the unity of the community.
Ankit Anand, one of the members the community, said, “We are gay, we are bisexual, we are transgender, and we are fine with what we are. Now, it’s high time for the society also to accept us. Children should be educated to treat this community with the same respect as shown to others.”
Amrit, another participant in the parade, said, “I faced many challenges since birth as well as peer pressure to change my identity, but it was my self confidence and self love which made all the difference and helped me stand at the place where I am today. I request the society to see us with the same respect and dignity.”
Purnima, a volunteer, said, “The parade spread happiness and love among all. These people are like gem. Their gender is theirs, not ours. So, we should accept them as a human being and stop making mockery of them.”
