Patna: 2 minor girls escape from shelter home

PATNA: The Alamganj police on Monday lodged a missing complaint after two minor girls escaped from a government-aided shelter home at Gai Ghat in Patna on July 29. The complaint was registered by the superintendent in-charge, Karuna Sagar.

The incident took place during the wee hours on July 29, when the inmates broke open the bathroom ventilator and escaped from Balika Grih Nishant under Alamganj police station area. The officials of the shelter suspected that the girls escaped from the backside of the premises as the main gate was heavily guarded, the police said.

The incident was captured in a CCTV camera. A video of the incident showed the girls fleeing from the bathroom ventilator. The two girls, aged 16 and 17 respectively, had been lodged there since March 1, 2022 and January 20, 2019 respectively.

SHO Abhijeet Kumar said the shelter home informed them about the two girls missing, but the complaint was formally lodged on Monday after the authorities ascertained that they had not gone back to their families. "One girl is from Patna's Dhanuara area. She was living at the shelter home for the last five months on the court's order. She was forwarded to the shelter home after eloping with a boy and marrying him. The other girl was brought from Muzaffarpur's shelter home in 2019," he said. "The officials of shelter home visited the family members of the girls and informed them about them. A police team has been sent to the Balika Grih for investigation," he added.
