A couple of years ago, Patrick Beverley was a member of the Los Angeles Clippers, a team that has had championship aspirations since Kawhi Leonard and Paul George joined them in 2019.
The Clippers have been gaining more and more respect over the past decade, but Los Angeles is still, by and large, a Lakers metropolis.
Beverley, of course, is now a member of the Purple and Gold, and he has detected a different type of vibe about his new team, especially when it comes to respect.
Via Lakers Daily:
“Beverley threw a bit of a dig at his former team, claiming that there is a different respect for Lakers players in Los Angeles.”
Patrick Beverley on going from playing for the Clippers to the Lakers: “Very different. Night and day. Walking around the city, you almost get a different respect.”

For all their talent and bark, the Clippers have been to the Western Conference finals once, and over the past several years, they have blown 3-1 series leads twice in the playoffs.
The Lakers, of course, are coming off a season in which they lost significant respect around the NBA. They’re hoping to regain at least some of their former luster as LeBron James approaches the tail end of his career.
If Beverley is even close to the defensive pest and 3-point sniper he was with the Clippers, he can help his new employer improve its reputation.
