The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) has held the Railways responsible for deficiency in service after passengers were robbed at gunpoint by armed men inside a reserved sleeper coach in 2004.
The commission directed the Railways to pay Rs 20,000 to the passengers towards loss, deficiency in service, mental agony and litigation expenses. The order was pronounced on August 31, 2026.
