Passengers evacuated from Manchester Airport as alarm triggered by mistake

Part of Manchester Airport had to be evacuated after a passenger triggered a fire alarm by mistake. There was panic in Terminal 3 as travellers had to leave with the alarm activated at around 11.30am this morning (May 16).

Thankfully it was a false alarm, after a 'break glass' device was caught by a passenger in the Terminal 3 security by accident. But passengers still had to leave the immediate area in line with Manchester Airport's health and safety procedures, with the clock ticking towards departure time for some travellers.

@xilvobs wrote on Twitter: "Manchester Terminal 3 had a Fire Alarm evacuation just before I turned up so the security queue for my flight is literally out of the Terminal building door. Flight in 70 mins btw."

Passengers were able to return to the building after around 20 minutes, and fortunately no one missed their flight due to the issue. Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed it did not attend the incident.

A spokesperson for Manchester Airport added: "A fire alarm was accidentally activated in the security area of Terminal 3 meaning the section had to be briefly cleared. Normal service was quickly restored meaning no-one missed their flight as a result."
