MUMBAI: Air India, the only Indian carrier that flies to the US has curtailed most of its operations to the US from Wednesday (January 19) over issues arising due to deployment of the 5G communications by the US. Other carriers too have curtailed their flights. Emirates too announced that it will be suspending most of its flights to the US destinations from Wednesday until further notice. Not all US-bound flights have been cancelled though; Air India operated its flight to Washington, Emirates operated flights to four top US destinations.
The Air India flights which have been cancelled on January 19 are those from Delhi to New York, San Francisco, Chicago and then the flight from Mumbai to Newark. The airline tweeted that the flights have been hit due to the deployment of the 5G communications in US. Air India flight from Delhi to Washington DV (AI 103 of January 19) operated as scheduled though.
Among the other carriers that have cancelled flights due to the 5G issues are Emirates, Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways. Among the flights Emirates has cancelled are those from Dubai to Boston, Chicago, Dallas Fort Worth,Houston, Miami, Newark, Orlando, San Francisco and Seattle. "Customers holding tickets with the final destination to any of the above will not be accepted at the point of origin," Emirates said in a statement issued late last night. But Emirates flights from Dubai to New York, JFK, Los Angeles and Washington continue to operate as scheduled, the airline said. "Affected customers do not need to call us immediately for rebooking. Customers can simply hold on to their Emirates ticket and when flights resume, get in touch with their travel agent or booking office to make new travel plans," the airline said.
