Passenger threatens to bomb plane in note to attendant on Seattle-bound flight, FBI says

A passenger wrote a note to a flight attendant threatening to detonate explosives on a Seattle-bound Alaska Airline flight, federal authorities said.

Alaska Airlines Flight 334 was traveling from Atlanta on Wednesday, when Brandon Scott, 38, of Kentucky made the bomb threat, an FBI agent said in charging documents.

Scott is accused of writing a note that said he would detonate homemade explosives in his carry-on bag and “kill everyone on board” if the captain did not divert the plane to another airport, according to the charging documents.

“I repeat, if I see us land in Seattle, I will kill every soul on this plane,” he wrote in the note.

The plane was diverted to Spokane and landed at about 5:15 p.m. with 177 passengers and six crew members, Alaska Airlines said in an emailed release.

Police and a bomb squad greeted the plane once it landed, the airline said. No explosives were found on the plane, authorities said in the charging documents.

Scott was arrested on a charge of false information and hoaxes. He told investigators he knew there weren’t bombs on the plane.

He wanted the plane to be diverted because he said the Sinaloa Cartel was going to “torture and kill” him if he landed at the Seattle airport, documents say.

“We are grateful for the professionalism and care of our flight attendants and pilots throughout this incident,” the airline said.
