Pass % of kids with special needs better than 2019

NEW DELHI: The overall pass percentage of children with special special needs (CSWN) in the CBSE Class XII board exams was 93.11% this year, but it was less than 99.59% recorded in 2021. However, it was an improvement compared with 2019 and 2020, when the pass percentage was 90.25% and 91.68%, respectively.

The principals of several schools said every batch was different as teachers and students were also different.

This year saw the highest number of children with special needs appear for the Class XII examinations compared with the past four years. While in 2020 and 2021, there were 2,536 and 3,925 students, respectively, in 2022 there were 4,511 students under the category. Out of these, 4,395 appeared for the examination and 4,092 passed.

Ronak Gupta, a student of Amity International School, Pushp Vihar, who had an aggregate of 94.6%, said the school was a major contributor to his exceptional results.

A low vision candidate, Gupta said, “My school helped me and I garnered a lot of support from it. Even teachers for the respective subjects were very helpful. I scored the highest marks in accounts (97%). As of now, I have 2-3 options, which include BCom (H) in Delhi University. While the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) is a good move, its implementation has not been great. My CUET exams are scheduled for August.”
