Partick Thistle unable to corroborate allegations of racism by supporters

Partick Thistle have been unable to corroborate allegations of racist behaviour from supporters during their recent 4-0 win over Queen’s Park.

Thistle appealed for information seven days ago after an allegation that racial comments were made by “specific attendees” in the John Lambie Stand.

A new statement from the club read: “Following the allegation being made, the club took a statement from the supporter who made the allegation as well as statements from their companions at the match.

“We then issued our appeal – via club media, through our email database and via external media – for anyone in attendance at the match who had been aware of the incident to get in touch.

“In addition, at our next match on Saturday April 15, we positioned stewards in close proximity to where the alleged incident had taken place. These stewards did not encounter any racist comments being made during this match.

“At present, we have been unable to corroborate the initial complaint and have communicated this back to the supporter who raised the complaint.

“We also advised of the right to report the incident to the police and that we would fully cooperate with any subsequent enquiry.

“In line with the club’s zero tolerance policy on racist behaviour, we will continue to monitor all of our supporters on a matchday to ensure we eradicate any such incidents of this nature.

“We would encourage any supporters experiencing such behaviour on future matchdays to report it to a steward immediately.

“To reiterate, Partick Thistle has a zero-tolerance policy towards racism and will do everything possible to ensure no incidents of racist behaviour take place within Firhill Stadium.”
