Parking hack could have made DelBoy £2,860 a year - and anyone can do it

Del Boy’s Peckham parking would have earnt him a massive £2,860 a year, had he ever been smart enough to rent it out. While Harry Potter’s famous home of Privet Drive could have generated an additional £2,075 for the Dursleys.

JustPark has revealed how much extra cash some of Britain’s most recognisable fictional faces could be making if they were to list their driveways on the platform.

From Friday Night Dinner’s Goodman family’s off-street parking in North London, to Gavin and Stacey’s Mick and Pam's Essex home, the app has totted up the earning potential of a number of iconic addresses using the JustPark online calculator, which takes into consideration driver demand in those specific locations, nearby transport links and proximity to local amenities.

EastEnders Ben Mitchell tops the leaderboard as the biggest potential earner of the group. The fictional East London location, which is located on the official Eastenders tube map where Bromley-by Bow is, would bring in almost £3,500 a year. Its location is ideal for commuters passing through Walford on their way into the city as the parking space is in an area with very little off-street parking, so provides commuters with a reliable place to leave their car, while they hop onto the London Underground.

JustPark has 12 million drivers using their app and website to look for parking and has identified that there is £1.85 million in unclaimed earning potential due to increasing driver demand.

Anthony Eskinazi, CEO and Founder of JustPark said: “By sharing the earning potential of some of the most familiar faces and characters in the UK, we hope that Brits recognise the untapped goldmine that is their driveway. With members of the JustPark community able to earn up to £5,000 a year, our app is the simplest way to supplement your income, whether you are saving for a rainy day, or looking for some support during the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.”

Hannah Stern’s South-West London home from ITV drama, The Split, could have secured almost £3,000 a year.

Outside of London, the bustling city of Manchester has the greatest need for more parking solutions. Influencing a real-life spike in customer demand, which has led to a collective £250,000 in potential income up for grabs by residents with private parking, JustPark hosts in this Northern city are earning up to £3,500 per year. If the fictional student housemates from the comedy show, Fresh Meat, had been savvy, they could have been splitting a healthy £1,800 in annual earnings if they rented out their Whalley Range driveway.

While on Coronation Street, Gail Platt’s off-the-cobbles parking could be supplementing her income by £1,440 per year. Thanks to its Greater Manchester location being in such proximity to United’s Old Trafford, shopping centres and the Lowry Theatre, it makes it an ideal parking space for someone looking to enjoy the city’s popular arts and culture scene.
