Parfetts opens first West Midlands cash and carry

A new wholesale cash and carry depot has opened in Birmingham creating 100 jobs.

Employee-owned Parfetts has launched its eighth depot in Tyseley, and its first in the West Midlands, expanding its existing coverage in which it already serves Wales, the north of England and across the Midlands.

The company supports more than 1,100 retailers through its Go Local and The Local brands and operates a retail club with over 5,000 members.

Its range of products include food, drink, licensed products and catering disposables. It posted revenue of £570 million last year and said the new Birmingham depot was an important part of its growth plans.

Joint managing director Guy Swindell said: "Our team has worked hard to launch the new Birmingham depot in a short period of time.

"We can't wait to bring the benefits of our employee-owned model to independent retailers across the region."

West Midlands Mayor Andy Street, who officially opened the new facility, added: "Given my time at John Lewis, I've always had an affinity for employee-owned businesses.

"That's why it's wonderful to welcome Parfetts to our region and I very much look forward to seeing them go from strength to strength in the months and years ahead - helping our retail sector to advance."

Parfetts was established as a family business in 1980 and a majority stake was sold to an employee trust board in 2008 before the company became fully employee-owned in 2018.
