Parents of Brit murdered in Cyprus meet officials

The parents of a man who was killed while holidaying in Cyprus were due to meet with officials from the Foreign Office today.

George Low was murdered aged just 22 in Ayia Napa in 2016.

His mum Helen and father Martyn told Sky News that they “won't stop trying to get justice for George”, reports Birmingham Live.

It is understood that two suspects are living in Turkey but, due to diplomatic issues between Turkey and Cyprus, they are free from the threat of extradition.

George, an estate agent, was on holiday in the party resort when he was stabbed to death.

He had got involved in an argument with two men while he was with friend Ben Barker.

The men walked away initially, but then returned with knives and attacked the pair.

George pulled a knife from his neck before passing away, having been stabbed several times.

Mr Barker was seriously injured, but survived.

The suspects are 28-year-old Mehmet Akpinar and 48-year-old Bulgarian national Sali Ahmet.

While both men are wanted by Cypriot police on suspicion of murder, Cyprus and Turkey have no diplomatic relations with one another - Turkey still occupies Northern Cyprus and has done since 1974 - and so the pair have not been extradited.

Mr Barker has since received abusive messages on social media, apparently from Akpinar, containing taunts and threats.

The Low family’s local MP, Gareth Johnson, has worked with them in lobbying both the British and Cypriot governments to take further action and bring the suspects to justice.
