Parents fume as Aldi make change to popular sensitive baby wipes

Aldi has been hit with some criticism from parents after one shopper spotted it had decreased the amount you get in a packet of baby wipes.

The budget supermarket's Mamia Sensitive Baby Wipes are a popular choice among parents as they are mild and gentle for babies' skin.

Unfortunately, one savvy shopper has spotted the packet of 64 wipes now only contains 60 wipes.

It comes after the discounted German grocer announced it had switched all their own-branded wet wipes to plastic-free and biodegradable materials.

Mamia 60 packs of biodegradable baby wipes cost 55p a pack, previously the 64 packs of Mamia wipes cost 62p per pack.

The decrease in size was spotted by one shopper who shared it to the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Group on Facebook, where it quickly attracted the ire of other parents.

Sharing a snap of the old and new packet side by side, they wrote: "Aldi are getting sneaky! 64 down to 60!!!! Aldi UK sort it out! Read the comments."

The post quickly racked up over 1,000 likes and 4,000 comments from shoppers who have become "disappointed" with the brands wipes since the change.

"It's all well and good people saying it's only 4 wipes. For some families every little helps even 4 wipes", one shopper complained.

"My daughter just noticed this, by the size of the box being smaller, and not happy with the quality either, don't mend what's not broken, the wipes were great as they were", said a second.

"They are also now smaller wipes yes maybe double sided but are thinner than before, Asda did this a few years ago and ruined there wipes now Aldi is doing same", said a third.

"I notice last week they had gone up to 59p and they have gone up again to 65p in our Aldi", replied a fourth.

"Honestly the bigger picture is everything is going up, the other companies are probably doing this as well. They aren't being sneaky they literally have the number on the packet for all to see. They are still our favourite wipes and still worth the price for us. 64 made no sense either, 65 or 60 just sounds less of a random number", said a fifth.

A spokesperson for Aldi told the Daily Record: “Moving to biodegradable wipes is another step forward in our commitment to reduce plastic across our ranges.

"As well as being plastic-free, our Mamia Biodegradable Wipes remain significantly cheaper than the Big Four, and we will continue to do all we can to keep prices down so shoppers know they will always make significant savings when they shop with us.”
