MUMBAI: Former India bowling coach Paras Mhambrey joined the Mumbai Indians’ support staff. While there has been no official confirmation, TOI has learnt that Mhambrey is indeed on board with MI as their bowling coach. The Mumbai-based franchise, which features Indian fast bowling superstar Jasprit Bumrah in the IPL, currently has Sri Lankan pace great Lasith Malinga as mentor and former India pacer TA Sekar as talent spotter.
Mhambrey, who was previously a part of MI right from the IPL’s inception in 2008, had also coached the India Under-19 team in the 2020 U-19 World Cup in South Africa. During his nearly three-year stint with Team India, the 52-year-old ex-India pacer-turned coach was credited by many, especially ace pacer Mohammed Shami, who kept gesturing towards him from the field during matches, for the Indian bowlers’ brilliant show in the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, and the T20 World Cup in West Indies in June this year.
