Paramedics rushed to hospital after crossroads crash with Audi

Paramedics were rushed to hospital after a crash with an Audi at a major crossroads in Liverpool.

Merseyside Police first received a 999 call at 4.15pm on Monday, September reporting an ambulance was overturned on Church Road in Litherland. Once at the scene officers found the ambulance was involved in a crash with a while Audi A5 at the junction of Netherton Way.

The ambulance, which was on blue lights heading to an emergency incident at the time of the crash, was found overturned onto the drivers side. Two paramedics who were in the ambulance at the time of the crash were injured and rushed to a nearby hospital.

The Audi driver did not suffer any injuries in the crash. Merseyside Police confirmed all people involved at the crash stopped at the scene and no arrests were made.

A spokesperson from the North West Ambulance Service said: "At around 4.15pm, an ambulance travelling on blue lights to an emergency incident was involved in a collision with another vehicle as it passed through the junction between Netherton Way and Church Road, Litherland. The impact caused the ambulance to flip onto its side, injuring the crew, who were taken to hospital to undergo further assessment and treatment.

"We hope they’ll make a full recovery. The driver of the other vehicle was unharmed. We’re helping the police with their investigation to determine the full circumstances of the incident."

A number of roads were closed following the crash including Dunnings Bridge Road towards the docks and Church Road in both directions. The Audi was recovered from the scene within an hour of the road being closed.

A recovery team then pulled the ambulance back onto four wheels before clearing debris from the road. Eyewitnesses in the area described traffic as being "crazy" with vehicles queuing back to Switch Island.

A spokesperson from Merseyside Police said: "We received our first call at 4.15pm following reports of a crash between an ambulance and a white Audi A5 on Church Road in Litherland. All parties are believed to have slight injuries and no arrests have been made.

"We're asking motorists to find an alternative route."
