Police say charges could be laid against a teenage girl over the alleged stabbing of a student at a high school in the New South Wales Central West.
Paramedics were called to Canobolas Rural Technology High in Orange at about 1pm on Monday.
Police say a 16-year-old girl suffered arm and chest injuries in an alleged knife attack.
She was treated by paramedics at the scene and taken to the Orange Hospital in a stable condition.
Her injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
A teenage girl arrested at the school is being interviewed by police.
"A 15-year-old girl was arrested at the scene and conveyed to Orange police station where she is assisting with inquiries," Superintendent Brendan Gorman said.
He said the school was temporarily placed into lockdown.
"Part of the process is to ensure there are no other persons, so it's all about security and safety of the children at the school," Superintendent Gorman said.
"It's very concerning for police and we encourage people to talk to their children about safety.
"Knives are lethal, they should not be carrying knives.
"They shouldn't be using knives in any way shape or form, other than to cut food."
A spokesperson for the NSW Department of Education said staff immediately provided first aid after the "altercation between two students".
"The school was placed into lockdown for a short period of time as a safety precaution," the spokesperson said.
"Wellbeing supports are in place for all staff and students.
"As this is a NSW Police matter, it would be inappropriate to comment further."
The department said normal school operations resumed later on Monday afternoon.
