Paraguayan Olympic swimmer Luana Alonso has garnered widespread attention on social media, gaining 200,000 new followers in a matter of hours after making the rounds for her actions in and outside the pool.
Alonso tearfully announced her retirement on live television after losing her race, then followed up with a post on Instagram saying, "Sorry Paraguay, I can only thank you."
However, she then also made the rounds after reports surfaced about her being removed from her country's lodging at the Olympic village, with team chiefs frustrated with her frequent social media postings and constant sightseeing, including posing atop the Eiffel Tower, a trip to Disneyland Paris, and cruising down the Seine.
After her trip to Disneyland Paris, Paraguayan Chef de Mission Larissa Schaerer reportedly asked the Olympic influencer to pack up and leave the athletes' village because she was "creating an inappropriate atmosphere at the heart of Team Paraguay."
Alonso left the athlete's village and arrived in Texas where she is a student at the Southern Methodist University in Dallas majoring in Political Science.
However, the swimmer made a statement on Instagram Stories on Monday, saying "I just wanted to make it clear that I was never removed or expelled from anywhere, stop spreading false information," she wrote on her Story. "I don't want to give any statement but I'm not going to let lies affect me either."
