Paolo Nutini tells crowd he 'has a lot of love' for Nicola Sturgeon

PAOLO Nutini told those attending his gig in Glasgow on Tuesday evening that he “has a lot of love” for Nicola Sturgeon.

The Paisley singer, 35, was performing at the OVO Hydro following the release of his album Last Night in the Bittersweet in May earlier this year.

After performing the song Iron Sky, his 2014 song which was interpreted by many to be about Scottish independence, Nutini spoke about the First Minister.

MSP Karen Adam took to Twitter to share what Nutini had said about Sturgeon.

She said: “Tonight at the OVO after singing Iron Sky @paolonutini says ‘just to let you know, I’ve got a lot of love for @NicolaSturgeon’.

“Incredible gig.”

This year marked the first time Nutini has released new music in eight years. He is set to play the OVO Hydro in Glasgow on Wednesday, Friday, Sunday and next Tuesday.

Kelly Given, star of Channel 4’s Make Me Prime Minister, also praised Nutini for his comment.

She said: “@PaoloNutini just told the hydro he loves @NicolaSturgeon, as if we needed another reason to stan.”

Another Twitter user replied that one of Nutini’s songs, Iron Sky, was a “confirmed Yes anthem”.

Another added: “@NicolaSturgeon had to let you know you had a special mention from our @PaoloNutini tonight.

“Was so proud to hear him voice his political opinion that, publicly, he doesn’t normally do.”

Speaking to the BBC’s Newsbeat prior to the 2014 independence referendum, Nutini said he knew “where his heart” was on the issue but that he was yet to make up his mind.
