So, uh, the Carolina Panthers suddenly now have two spots to fill (again) on their 2022 coaching staff.
In a relatively unusual development, wide receivers coach Frisman Jackson will be headed to the Pittsburgh Steelers—where he’ll assume the very same duties. The hire is somewhat odd considering Pittsburgh did not bring back the highly-respected Ike Hilliard for the position and that Jackson seems to be making a lateral move.
. . . or is it?
Jackson was brought over to Carolina by head coach Matt Rhule in 2020. The former wideout also coached under Rhule at both Temple University in 2015 and 2016 and Baylor University in 2018 and 2019.
Of course, Jackson likely has his various reasons for the decision. But with Rhule’s seat being hotter than ever, the timing of the departure seems rather interesting—especially considering the two have spent six of the last seven years working together.
Regardless, Rhule is now on the hunt to address two vacancies—one to replace Jackson and one to head the team’s defensive line.
